Cold & flu season has definitely hit our home this year! I feel like it’s been one of the worst “sick seasons” we’ve had in awhile. But actually to be honest, I’m probably just paying attention to it more now because I have a little human to take care of ha! Cora, my two-year old, has been sick twice in the last month, one happening right now. That in return has led to myself and her grandparents all getting sick too. YIKES! So I thought what better time to share our number one used item during this cold season… our Crane Cool Mist Humidifier!
The crazy part is, whenever I was pregnant with Cora, I don’t believe I even put this on my baby registry and I put EVERYTHING on there! I mean I saw the Crane Humidifiers in the baby-stores but I didn’t think it would be something I would use that often. I’m here to say I was wrong!
Humidifiers add moisture to the air which in return can help with dry skin, congestion, sore throats, allergies, and many more dry irritations. We pull ours out anytime one of us gets sick or if the cold weather is just really drying us out. Cora actually has dry, sensitive skin so the humidifier is a great point of attack for that. It’s one of those products that you originally get for your child but realize how much you like it so you need one in all the bedrooms lol! Unfortunately as helpful as the humidifier is, it can potentially be harmful if you’re not properly cleaning it. But don’t you fret, I’m here to help and it’s super easy!
Quick back-story on why it’s so important to clean your humidifier before we get into how to do it. First, just like any appliance you need to care for it so it will properly work, obvious right? But the biggest reason you should regularly clean it is so you don’t risk spreading harmful bacteria & mold into the air. Yes, you could actually make the air worse rather than better. If you’re not regularly cleaning your humidifier that water will sit growing bacteria & mold. You then can potentially spread this harmful bacteria contaminating your air and causing breathing issues. The Simple fix though, clean & sterilize!
- DAILY RINSE and DRY- Be sure the unit is turned off and unplugged, then empty & rinse both tank and base, let air dry.
- WEEKLY CLEANING- Repeat your normal daily rinsing then fill the tank halfway with warm water and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. Let sit for 30 minutes. Use a small brush or q-tip to clean any buildup. Rinse thoroughly and let all pieces air dry.
That’s it! With a short amount of time and a small bit of effort, you can keep your humidifier in tip-top shape! With the alternative being potentially releasing harmful bacteria into the air, nobody wants that! Clean your humidifiers guys 😆 !
